This is the web site of Nick and Sue askew. It is a mixture of our personal information and projects we have undertaken.

Another side to the site is that it is a test bed for my work. I have been developing in asp, asp.net, and Silverlight and this site allows me to demonstrate this.

Luckily I've been kept quite busy with work for clients, the only drawback to this is that I have to find a few minutes here and there to develop this site so it is not progressing as quickly as I'd have liked.

I am not a graphic designer and I know this shows in this web site. I would like to have a better eye for more appealing designs, in my work this rarely proves to be a problem because most clients come to me with an idea of what they already want and it is simply down to me to implement the techie bits.

Because this site contains personal information such as details of our mail addresses and family photos as well as personal stories I ask that you firstly provide some information about yourself before I grant access to these areas of the site. This stops the evil menace that is spammers and also prevents our photos falling into the hands of people that are not known to us. I can imagine that some people will want to know if their information is safe with us. I give you my word that I shall not be gathering mail addresses for the purposes of passing on to others. However if you don't know me then this is just words and I suggest you don't bother logging in.

Hotlinking

This is one of my pet grievances. In case you are unaware of what hotlinking actually is let me explain. Suppose you see an image on this or another site and decide you would like to show it on your web site. There are two ways you can do this, the first would be to copy the picture to your own web site so that it is served from that web site, the second is hotlinking where you just place a link to my picture on your site so that my server has to serve the picture every time someone visits your site. I have noticed that most people using message boards tend to prefer this second method because often there is no way to copy the image to the server of the message board.

So why should you not hotlink? Well let's start with copyright, using someone elses image using hotlinking is not as such a breach of copyright but it has been my experience that people who hotlink do not seek permission. Copying an image from the internet that is covered by copyright is copyright theft. All images on this site are copyright Nick Askew and as such you need my permission before you copy them or use them in any way. This includes not only the main photographs but also any banners or other images you come across while browsing this site. The next reason is that I see no reason why I (or my server) should be used to help you build your web site. The bandwidth I have is limited and as such each and every hit on your site means my machine has to spin up and serve your web site visitor. Selfishly I see no benefit to this for me. Another reason is that I do not give any assurances that images you see on my site today will be available or even look the same tomorrow. So today you might see a picture of someone famous playing a guitar and tomorrow the picture might be removed leaving a hole in your web site or replaced by an explicit advert for some kind of sexual device in which case you may find yourself in breach of your ISP's terms and conditions. Another reason that you should not hotlink to images on this server is that it will not work. I've installed software that protects my server from attempts to hotlink and it is quite unlikely that you will see the image you really wanted.

Using Images From This Site

I am frequently asked by people for copies of the images on this site. Sadly for most people this request will be denied. I have been negotiating with some of the artists for the right to sell some of the images and this may become a possibility.

For artists and their official fan clubs.

For the artists and their official fan clubs I am far more willing to share the images but I ask that some conditions are met.

  1. The images will only be used on line or for printing solely in fan magazines that are free with a subscription to a fan club. Images may not be used for commercial purposes other than on a web site or within a fan magazine. Images used for commercial purposes are subject to a separate contract and permission must be sought prior to use otherwise the standard condition of 99% of turnover payable to Nick Askew is applicable.

  3. The images may not be used in such a way as to show any individual or organsiation appearing in the image in such a way a might be considered derogatory to the individual or organisation. This includes altering the image or including the image along side text or other images that might be considered derogatory.
  4. You may use the images however you do not own the images. Should it be deemed necessary then you may be asked to cease using the images and you will make immediate efforts to do so, for on-line use you will remove the images within two days, for printed use you will ensure the image is not included in further print runs.

Linking To This Site

In general you are permitted to link to any page that appears within this site but please do not link directly to the pop up image pages or any other page that pops up from the main page. I have installed software to redirect links back to the page that I would prefer you to link to so please be aware that if you do link to the a part of the site that I'd prefer you not to link to, you may find that your link takes you somewhere else.

If you choose to link to the site please try to make the link as appropriate as possible. This means ideally you should link to the article concerning the concert or event you were discussing. Again please don't directly link to the image pages, it won't work.
